What does it take to really be a Daddy?

I have always felt that there was something special about being called Daddy.   Today I am going to share my opinion of  what it takes to earn that title, for I do not believe that you are given that title.  You are given the opportunity to earn that title.  Being a Daddy comes with many requirements.  Some are as easy as taking a breath, others are much more difficult.  But I believe that everyone of them comes with a reward that can never be matched.  Being a Daddy requires you to be a very versatile man.  Soft as cotton in one instance and strong as an ox in the next.  Being a Daddy means you have to humble yourself to the most serving of characters while you allow your daughter to teach you all about the proper way to hold your cup at a royal tea party and then transform to the highest authority as you tell her why she can't have 3 candy bars before she goes to bed at night.  You have to be coolest dude in the world in her eyes but at the same time there can not be anything that you won't do that will make her smile.  And yes, you may go to your job on Monday with painted toes or fingernails or maybe a little residue of mascara on your eyes.  But when you are putting your hard hat on at the construction site and your co-workers are asking you "what the heck you have been doing,"  you tell them with the biggest and proudest smile on your face, I was being a Daddy!
Of all the things that I have learned about my responsibility of earning the title of Daddy, one thing always sticks out, EXPRESSION.  We have to TELL our babies we love them! We have to teach them how important it is to look into their eyes and tell them you are proud of them, tell them they do a good job, tell them thank you, and most importantly, tell them you love them.  That is our responsibility.  If we don't teach them, no one ever will.  Hopefully there is something in this reading that touched you, reassurred you, or maybe even enlightened you to make something happen.  Please leave a comment at the bottom after you have read this.  I believe in our responsibility and I want to spread the idea to the world.  You can help.
In closing, I want to give you a small piece of what the reward for this title feels like.  It is just some kind words that were spoken about a Daddy.  If you hear these type of words, then you know that you have earned your title of DADDY!

"I wanted you to know.
all about my daddy,
and how he loves me so.
He loves to tell me stories,
he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprises me with pink roses,
and he taught me to fly a kite.
We share fudge sundaes,
and ice cream in a cone.
My daddy's always with me,
even when we are apart.
I know because he told me,
he'll forever be here in my heart."

Express yourself today to someone you love.  I will pay for it.
